Depth of Field

피사계 심도

Depth of field blurs areas in front of and behind the focus distance to draw attention to a subject. Set the focus target and aperture to control the blur.

Focus on nearby text and the distant wall goes soft; focus on the wall and the text blurs. Depth of field is the range of distances that look sharp. Set Focus Object and F-Stop in the camera's Properties ▸ Depth of Field panel.

In code, enable cam.data.dof.use_dof and assign the object to focus_object. aperture_fstop is the aperture value: a smaller number narrows the sharp range and increases blur in front of and behind the subject. This example focuses on the center sphere and renders once with the effect off and once with it on in EEVEE.

Setting a focus object does not guarantee that every part of it will look sharp. The result also depends on the lens, focus distance, and aperture, so an extremely low F-Stop can blur part of the subject itself. Raise the F-Stop and refocus when product edges or text need to stay readable.

When to use

Use it to separate one subject from its surroundings. Keep the blur subtle or turn it off when an explanatory shot needs several objects to remain readable.
