Render Engine

렌더 엔진

A render engine is the method Blender uses to turn a scene into an image. Workbench, EEVEE, and Cycles differ in speed and how they calculate light.

The same model can be drawn as a design sketch, a fast real-time preview, or a photograph calculated by tracing light. Workbench is for inspecting models, EEVEE is a real-time raster renderer, and Cycles uses path tracing to calculate light response. Choose one at Render Properties ▸ Render Engine.

In Python, assign an engine identifier to scene.render.engine. In Blender 5.1, the identifiers are 'BLENDER_EEVEE', 'CYCLES', and 'BLENDER_WORKBENCH'. Each engine has different settings: EEVEE samples live under scene.eevee, while Cycles samples live under scene.cycles.

Materials and effects can look different across engines, and some features are engine-specific. Workbench is for quick shape checks; EEVEE can also produce final renders, while Cycles is a good choice when path-traced physical accuracy matters. This demo keeps the metallic sphere, ceramic cube, and lights the same across engines.

When to use

Choose an engine for the task and balance render speed against final image quality. Recheck materials and engine-specific effects after switching.
