The Properties editor is like a toolbox with drawers: tabs hold settings for rendering, scenes, objects, materials, and more. It is usually on the right. Select an object and open the wrench icon’s Modifiers tab to add a modifier or change its values. The visible settings change with the active object.

In Python, change the target data directly instead of clicking a UI tab. This demo creates a Bevel modifier with cube.modifiers.new('Bevel', 'BEVEL'), then changes bevel.width and bevel.segments. Use bpy.ops for context-dependent actions such as applying a modifier; use the data API to adjust its properties. This property path has no Blender 5.x-specific change.

A modifier changes the evaluated result without immediately rewriting the source mesh. Apply it only when you need to make that result permanent. The demo changes both bevel width and segment count on the same box; it renders the results instead of the Properties editor UI.

When to use

Use it to find settings for the active object and adjust modifiers, materials, or render options. For automation, change the same data properties through bpy.
