Unit settings are like changing the marks on a ruler from centimeters to inches. In Scene Properties ▸ Units, choose None, Metric, or Imperial, then set the length unit and Unit Scale. With Unit Scale set to 1.0, Metric and Meters display one Blender Unit as one meter.

In code, set scene.unit_settings.system = 'METRIC', length_unit = 'METERS', and scale_length = 1.0. These values define the conversion used for dimensions and UI display; they do not rewrite mesh coordinates as meter values. The mesh’s actual size is stored in its vertices and object transforms. This demo shows a one-Blender-Unit cube beside a ruler of the same length.

Unit Scale affects displayed unit values, but does not automatically change the internal behavior of physics simulations. Choose a unit convention for the project and keep object scales consistent. The rendered ruler represents actual mesh distances. The “1 m” label was typed into a Text object; Unit Settings did not generate it.

When to use

Choose a unit convention early for measured models, physics, or architectural scenes. Changing the unit display does not rewrite existing coordinates.
