Join and Separate

결합과 분리

Join combines same-type objects into one object; Separate moves mesh parts into new objects. Join does not weld the geometry together.

Join is like putting several parts into one box; Separate takes parts back out into their own boxes. In Object Mode, select objects of the same type and press Ctrl+J. In Mesh Edit Mode, use P ▸ By Loose Parts to create an object for every disconnected piece.

In Python, select the same-type objects and call bpy.ops.object.join(); separate loose mesh parts with bpy.ops.mesh.separate(type='LOOSE'). Both are bpy.ops operations that need selected objects and the right mode, so a background script must set that context first. This example moves two joined islands together, then separates them again.

Join does not weld vertices or Boolean-union surfaces. Material slots can be combined, but per-object modifiers and parenting are not transferred onto the active object. The rendered views show two islands moving together, then moving apart after separation.

When to use

Join same-type objects when one mesh object is easier to manage. Separate them when parts need their own selection or transforms; use welding or Boolean tools when surfaces must truly connect.
